QUICK TERMINOLOGY
You only need 3 measurements to calculate your estimate !
PLEASE ENTER THESE MEASUREMENTS IN MILLIMETERS (1M=1000MM)
1) Shape : Is the staircase straight or u-shaped?
2)Total Rise in Millimeters (Eg 2,95 m = 2950mm)
(FLOOR TO FLOOR HEIGHT)
3)Total Run in Millimeters (Eg 4,85m = 4850mm)
(BASE LENGHT OF STAIRCASE)
4) Width in Millimeters , this is the width of your staircase, please keep in mind that 100mm should be available for balustrades. (Eg total width available 1200mm , your ideal width would then be 1100mm (100mm left as gap for balustrades)
If you are unsure of any of these dimentions please check the sketch on the bottom of the page.
PLEASE GET A PEN AND PAPER OR YOUR PHONE AND WRITE DOWN THE RESULTS, YOU ARE GOING TO NEED THE FOLLOWING TO BE ABLE TO ACCURATELY CALCULATE AN ESTIMATE
1) NUMBER OF TREADS
2) WIDTH OF TREAD
3)LENGHT OF BALUSTRADE
(THE RESULT ONLY GIVES YOU THE LENGHT OF BALUSTRADE NEEDED ON THE STAIRCASE ITSELF, YOU NEED TO ADD ADDITIONAL BALUTRADES AS NEEDED FOR THE TOP OF YOUR STAIRCASE)
FOLLOW STEP 1-4
PLEASE ENTER YOUR VALUES INTO THE CALCULATOR ABOVE
Please write down your results, you are going to need to use the number of treads, the lenght of the balustrade and your width to calculate your own estimate.
TERMINOLOGY
PLEASE ENSURE YOU ENTER THE MEASUREMENTS IN METERS.
THE TOTAL RUN IS THE "LENGHT" OF YOUR STAIRCASE, ESSENTIALLY THE SPACE AVAILABLE FROM WHERE THE STAIRCASE CAN START TO WHERE IT ATTACHES TO THE NEXT LEVEL
THE TOTAL RISE IS THE HEIGHT OF YOUR STAIRCASE AND IS DETERMINED THROUGH MEASURING THE HEIGHT FROM THE FLOOR ON WHICH THE STAIRCASE IS FIXED TO THE FLOOR TO WHICH YOUR STAIRCASE LEADS. IF THIS HEIGHT EXCEEDS 3 METERS THEN ACCORDING TO BUILDING REGULATIONS A LARGER MIDDLE TREAD IS NEEDED.
